Pizza Margherita is regarded as one of the best types of pizzas regardless of their thick, thin, soft and crispy texture. With a number of toppings, it has undergone various variations over the years. Pizza Margherita grew in popularity in the mid-1900s and soon worldwide as entrepreneurs launched Italian restaurants.
However, the humble beginning of Margherita Pizza took place in 1889 when Queen Margherita of Savoy visited Naples. She was given pizza prepared by Raffaele Esposito in the hues of the Italian flag that consisted of white mozzarella cheese, green basil and red tomatoes. As the queen enjoyed the meal, the dish was named after her.
